Aging in Place is the Norm at Martha Jefferson House
“Aging in Place” is a common phrase these days and isn’t a new concept at Martha Jefferson House. From our beginning, 60 years ago, being able to age in place has been an integral part of living at Martha Jefferson House. The Perry’s vision was that one could naturally age in place, changing from Independent Living to Assisted Living, to admission into the Healthcare Center as health needs change. If someone in their Independent Living apartment eventually needs help with activities of daily living (ADLs), they can remain in their apartment and add ADLs as needed without having to move. An example that illustrates how Aging In Place works at Martha Jefferson House is an assisted living resident who came down with pneumonia. After her hospital stay, she was admitted to our Healthcare Center to regain her strength and then returned to her Assisted Living level apartment.
